Greater Hartford, which includes the City of Hartford and its surrounding suburbs, is located on the Connecticut River and is the largest metropolitan area in Connecticut. The City holds close proximity to both Boston and New York and is a major financial center in New England and headquarters to four Fortune 500 companies (Aetna, United Technologies, The Hartford and Eversource), including two of Connecticut’s three Fortune 100 companies (Aetna and United Technologies). Government employment stabilizes the area since Hartford is the state capital, but the economy boasts a diverse offering of industries including financial services, aerospace, technology, health services, manufacturing and biotechnology. Hartford is also home to Hartford Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. Both hospitals are considered high performing and the Children’s Medical Center is nationally ranked.
Constitution Plaza is located on a 6.63-acre site bounded by Talcott Street to the north, Columbus Boulevard to the east, State Street to the south and Market Street to the west. The buildings are on the eastern side of the CBD with sweeping views of the Connecticut River. In addition, the property is located in Hartford’s Business Improvement District (HBID) which strives to bring about positive and lasting change by enhancing the economy and general quality of life. The Hartford CBD has approximately 2,000 hotel rooms, which include the Hartford Marriot Downtown (409 rooms), the Hilton Hartford (392 rooms), and the Crowne Plaza Hartford Downtown (350 rooms). Leading attractions include the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, the Connecticut Opera, the Hartford Civic Center, and the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art (the oldest public art museum in America with more than 45,000 works in its permanent collection), Connecticut science center and convention center.
